2016-17 Season Record: 34 Wins - 1 Loss
St. John’s Sauers 8th grade girls basketball team is now the Lutheran middle school National Champion. The tournament featured 32 teams from across the United States.
The Raiders participated in the Lutheran school National Championship tournament at Valparaiso University from March 24-26. They won all 5 of their games, culminating with a 34-28 overtime win against Immanuel Lutheran (Palantine, Illinois) for the 2017 Lutheran Basketball Association of America’s National Championship.
Sauers had previously won a national championship in 2001. We finished third in 2006 and again in 2016.
We defeated Immanuel Lutheran (East Dundee, Illinois) 40-25 and St. Peter Lutheran (Macomb, Michigan) 37-20 on Friday to move to the quarterfinals. The Raiders then defeated Immanuel Lutheran (Lewiston, Minnesota) 33-18 to move to the semi-final round.
Sauers then beat defending champion St. Michael Lutheran (Fort Myers, Florida) 40-35 to advance to the Championship game.
Sydney Jaynes and Avery Koch were named to the all-tournament team.
