Dear Parents,

The theme for the year is “Encourage One Another” based on the Bible reference in 1 Thessalonians 5:11.

Being an encourager is pretty much a dying art, and those who encourage are an endangered species. Today it is far more fashionable to disparage and to deride; it is more news worthy to complain, to criticize, to condemn, and to censure.

Sadly, Lutheran churches and schools are not immune from the sad and sinful habit of taking cheap shots at others. Christians are warned: we need to watch our tongues. Instead of gossip and rumor, we should -- how did Paul say it to the church in Thessalonica? -- "encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing" (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

Think for a moment, consider all the church battles which might never have happened, all the feelings which might not have been hurt, all the personal wounds which might never have been sustained if we had "encouraged one another and built each other up." Let us all focus on the positive and successes that God has blessed each of us with here at Sauer’s.

Keep encouraging, supporting and praying for each other as God continues to use this school to serve in His mission field.

Yours in Christ,

Mr. B

Box Tops for Education.  St. John’s Lutheran School received a check for $589.30 for the 2016-2017 school year just from clipping and sending in box tops. Wow! You can make a difference! Please do not throw them away! (it really is like throwing away money) Send in 1 or send in 100.  Every box top sent in earns 10 cents, so the more we collect, the more our school receives! We also collect Tyson Project A+ coupons which are found on all Tyson products (we get 24 cents for each of those). Here is a look at our past earnings from Box Tops:

2013-2014 school year: $3,747.40

2014-2015 school year: $1,749.30

2015-2016 school year: $751.40

2016-2017 school year: $589.30

Private School Parents Tax Deduction: There is a 2017 Indiana tax deduction for eligible parents of students attending St. John’s Lutheran, grades K-8. Talk to your tax advisor for guidance.
