St. John’s Sauers Lutheran Church was organized in 1838. We are the oldest Lutheran congregation in Jackson County and the second oldest Missouri Synod congregation in Indiana. With the Lord's blessing and through the work of our members, we have grown from a handful of faithful Christians to a congregation of nearly 700 members. We also maintain an elementary school (pre-school, kindergarten, and grades 1 - 8) of 115 students.
St. John’s has provided Christian education in Jackson County for over 170 years. We are accredited by the Indiana Department of Education and the Lutheran Church's National Lutheran School Accreditation Association. More importantly, we provide a Christ-centered education we provide. If you are considering a new school for your children or a relocation to our area, we would love to have you be our guest.

RECENT NEWS
New School Board Members. Matt Johnson and Lori Wischmeier are newly elected members of the School Board. Other members include Susan Bevers, Mark Wischmeier, Dave Benter, Dr. Chris Lambring, Tyler Goodpaster and Luke Hackman. Our thanks and appreciation are extended to outgoing members Jay Rieckers and Chad Decker for their years of service.
§§§
COVID-19: The School Board voted to follow a quarantine policy, consistent with CDC guidelines, for students with COVID-19; rather than issue a mask mandate. Parents, students, teachers, and staff may wear masks if they choose; those decisions will be left to each individual/family.
§§§
Accreditation: Sauers is accredited by the National Lutheran School Accreditation (NLSA) which serves as the accrediting body for Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod schools across the country. Accreditation decisions are based on a school’s compliance with national standards for Lutheran schools that reflect the essential qualities that are expected of them. Our accreditation is up for renewal in 2022. The School Board has already initiated the process of pursuing accreditation for an additional term.
§§§
EANS Funding. Our EANS (Emergency Assistance to Non-Public Schools) plan has been approved and funding authorized. We have purchased Chromebooks as well as other classroom technology resources. We are again funding the Renaissance/Accelerated Reader program as well. In addition, some funds will be used for Lutheran Special Education Ministries (LSEM) to assist children with learning needs.
